Washington File Mobile Edition

The Washington File Mobile Edition delivers headlines and summaries of major U.S. foreign policy statements, speeches, and reports to subscribers with handheld devices such as Palm Pilots, Pocket PCs, or web-enabled cell phones.

The Mobile Edition, updated daily five days a week, is delivered through a free, web-based service for mobile communications called Avantgo. Once registered at Avantgo, subscribers simply download or "sync" the computer to their handheld device.

The Washington File Mobile Edition can be viewed at the following web address: http://usinfo.state.gov/products/washfile/wfmobile/.

To subscribe, follow these simple steps:

  • Use your web browser and log into http://www.avantgo.com/.
  • Sign in as a new user and follow the instructions to download Avantgo's software.
  • Register, as instructed, with name, password, and e-mail address.
  • Once you are registered at avantgo.com, simply click on this link:
    Washington File Mobile Edition. You will be subscribed automatically.


  • Alternatively, you can subscribe to the Mobile Edition on the avantgo.com web site. Log in with name and password.
  • Click on "Create Channel." Type in the URL for the Mobile Edition: http://usinfo.state.gov/products/washfile/wfmobile/.
  • Set "Maximum Channel Size" to "200" K and set "Link Depth" to "3." Refresh should be "on sync" and each day of the week should be checked.

That's all. The next time you sync your computer to your handheld device, you will receive the latest update of the Washington File Mobile Edition.
